Atlanta Lifestyle
Downtown Atlanta has a long and storied history that goes as far back as the 1830s. In 1864, General William Sherman's troops destroyed much of downtown Atlanta during the Civil War before they marched on to Savannah. Downtown slowly began to rebuild in the years after the Civil War ended & by 1880, it was home to numerous cultural attractions such as libraries, churches, theaters, and even a zoo. By 1900 downtown Atlanta had become one of the largest cities in the South as well as one of its most progressive. Downtown boasted wide streets with trolley lines and beautiful parks such as Piedmont and Grant Park. With cutting-edge transportation infrastructure like Terminals Station (now known as Five Points MARTA station), the Olympic Stadium was built for the 1996 Summer Olympics.
